The Incubator Creative Hub acknowledges the Tauranga Heritage Collection and TCC
for the use of this whare to celebrate arts and culture.
We are very grateful that the Tauranga Heritage collection invested in a new roof for the Faulkner whare. The previous roof had deteriorated to the point that the whare was leaking and plagued with mildew - severely compromising the ability to preserve the interior .
All the iron from the old roof has been retained for creative projects.
1.Part of the iron have been designed and cut into decorative shapes that are available to Faulkner descendants enabling them to own a piece of the homestead.
All funds generated from these upcycled taonga will go towards the cutting costs and then put towards delivering Rangatahi workshops at the Creative Hub.
2. The remainder of the iron is earmarked for a mural project engaging local Faulkner descendant artists focusing on a design around the Faulkner history/present. Faulkner descendants will be invited to come and paint alongside them. These murals will live near the Faulkner whare on the Historic Village premises.
Note: The discarded iron from the roof is not to our knowledge and research original however a beautiful sentiment and keepsake of the Faulkner whare ancestors’ home for some of you to own.
If you would like to discuss or order a piece of the iron shapes please email here with the shape you wish to purchase and please mention your whakapapa to the whare .
