Film Acting Weekend Workshop

with Vicky Yiannoutsos LA Acting Coach

This weekend intensive film acting course trains actors to create believable characters and emotionally connected relationships on screen.

This workshop focusses on the Art of Relating, which trains actors to create believable characters and emotionally connected relationships on screen. Working in pairs with scripts, actors learn the Five Arts of Film Acting – the Art of Concentration, the Art of Not Knowing, the Art of Acceptance, the Art of Giving and Receiving and the Art of Relating, which maximises instinctive and creative choices and trains actor to bring their own personality to the screen. The work will benefit actors wishing to reset or reinvigorate their acting muscles, remove blocks limiting creative choices and improve sight reading skills. In this practical course scenes are filmed.

Vicky Yiannoutsos has worked for over 40 years in the film industry as an editor, actor, acting coach, director and producer. She trained at the Jeremiah Comey Acting Studios in Los Angeles and has coached some of our finest film actors and directors. She has taught at Toi Whakaari, Auckland University, UCOL, TAPAC, The Actors Programme and Unitec in Auckland. A practical guide to learn the fundamental skills needed for drawing, with Nick Eggleston, one of our awesome resident tutors! He graduated from Chesterfield College of Art and Design and is a member of The Society of Designer Craftsmen. Nick is world famous for his amazing water colours of English Bull Terriers. He's a master craftsman of clay, water colour, occasionally wood carving and recently the art of bespoke shoe making.

Cold Wax - Painting the cool way

Weekend and Cool Evening Classes

An amazing half-day workshop to explore what cold wax is really made of, how to use it and what NOT to do with it. Learn what rules you can break when using cold wax, and what special benefits (namely, amazing texture) come with this medium. See what kind of paints you should reach for and discover the simple tools you will need. Explore the surfaces that will work best when working with cold wax, and how you can combine it with other art mediums such as mixed media, photography, painting and encaustic wax.   Sue MacDougall

Fundamentals of Painting

Tuesdays Or Thursdays for 4 weeks

This is an inspiring and productive course for all levels of experience. A fun time set in a chilled out relaxed and creative environment. Learn something new and then build on it. This course will be based on traditional painting techniques with some contemporary approaches applied to the genre. As well as covering a lot of ground, equally the focus will be on developing a solid understanding of colour theory, tonal relationships, proportion, and composition. Progressing to use these ideas to develop believable 3d forms on a 2d surface. Beginners Welcome.


Damien has a Master of Fine Arts, Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Otago Polytechnic.  He is passionate about art in general, with his focus being Painting and Drawing. Macrame Workshops - Tori Landon - Evarose & Co

Come and learn the art of Macramé with Tori from Evarose+Co.  Her classes full up very fast as the spaces are very limited to be able to give everyone time one-on-one.  Join in and create that special one-off piece. The last workshop sold out in a few days. Costs will depend on the project.

You'll learn the basics of knot making, tips & tricks, and create your own wall hanging, shoulder bag or wreath depending on the project for the day.  Take an amazing hand made item home or as a gift for a loved one. No experience is needed, and all materials are supplied. You will be working with beautiful NZ-made cotton cord (for some workshops - Tori will supply coloured cord)

Kokeshi Doll Workshop

Explore Japanese culture through Kokeshi dolls!    Participants will be designing and painting their wooden dolls with the tutor's guidance, and will take home their very own unique creation.  Engage with Ulemj a renowned local artist who resided in Japan for many years.   Ulemj is excited to be able to share her experiences with you and give you a practical and engaging way of exploring Japanese culture in a wonderfully sunny creative environment.   Two workshops to chose from.

Stone Sculpture For Beginners

Learn the basics of how to use the tools needed to craft shapes from stone.  Create and design a 3D sculpture.  Covers basic carving techniques in soft stone (Oamaru stone); all the stone and carving tools supplied. Participants to arrive with an idea in mind to produce a stone sculpture over the weekend.  Very small class with a max of 5 students.

Explore how to use tools to shape stone with award winning and experienced tutor and artist Rex O'Brien. Rex holds a Diploma in Art BOP Polytechnic, has been carving for over 18 years and been instrumental in organising and participating in carving symposiums nationwide.  Your workshop will be situated outside in a courtyard behind the artery under a Gazebo.
