Fundamentals of Painting 

With Damien Kurth

This is an inspiring and productive course for all levels of experience. A fun time set in a chilled out relaxed and creative environment. Get stuck in and learn something new each week and then build on it the next week. This course will be based on traditional painting techniques with some contemporary approaches applied to the genre.

 

As well as covering a lot of ground, equally the focus will be on developing a solid understanding of colour theory, tonal relationships, proportion, and composition. Progressing to use these ideas to develop believable 3d forms on a 2d surface.

Tuesdays Afternoons over 5 weeks

Starts: 2nd February to 2nd March

Time 1 to 3pm

Bring Paper towels or cotton rags with you. Basic starting materials are supplied, guidance on any other purchases will be given during the course You are more than welcome to bring your own paints and brushes.  Tea and coffee are supplied, a café is a few doors down the road.

 

The ideas covered can be applied to all painting mediums (oil and acrylic) and brief discussions can be explored. Damien is an exceptional and experienced tutor that comes to us from Auckland where he has been a part of the Browne School of Art.

Chair Up Upholstery

Beginners and Follow Up Classes

Learn Upholstery in the  beautiful t Historic Village. Take home your transformed piece upholstered by you! Come away with enough confidence to continue projects at home. Paula has Beginners,  headboard or NO SEW simple armchair workshops.

Jewellery Making: Repairing, Revamping, Repurposing

Bronnsmith Jewellery

This course is an introduction to jewellery making with a focus on giving new life to old jewellery, your collection of stones, trinkets and other found objects. Using a ‘bare-bones’ approach to construction and a ‘virtue out of necessity’ design ethos, students can create an artwork or heirloom out of almost anything All necessary tools will be available to use each night during the workshops. If students wish they can purchase hand tools and extra jewellery supplies from the tutor

Basic Kit supplied and after dinner treats. Students are welcome to just bring themselves and start from scratch, or bring their own tools, jewellery supplies, and collected trinkets and objects they are wanting to use in their creations, if they have them.

A professional silversmith she started out without heat work, just hand tools, wires, braids, beads, stones, and an assortment of found objects. She loves to share her love of bare bones jewellery making, repurposing, and recycling to create an artwork or heirloom.

Cold Wax The Cool Way to Paint

Weekend Classes

An amazing half-day workshop to explore what cold wax is really made of, how to use it and what NOT to do with it. Learn what rules you can break when using cold wax, and what special benefits (namely, amazing texture) come with this medium. See what kind of paints you should reach for and discover the simple tools you will need.  

 

Come along with friends to an enjoyable time together learning a new Art medium for NZ. It was used in the late 1500's by Titan and other painters of the Renaissance period. Even Rembrandt in the 1600s used it.

A practical guide to learn the fundamental skills needed for drawing, with Nick Eggleston, one of our awesome resident tutors! He graduated from Chesterfield College of Art and Design and is a member of The Society of Designer Craftsmen.

 

Nick is world famous for his amazing water colours of English Bull Terriers. He's a master craftsman of clay, water colour, occasionally wood carving and recently the art of bespoke shoe making.

Level II Drawing Course

Drawing Level II for those that have been lucky enough to attend one of Nicks beginners’ classes in the past.   Nick will show you new techniques and help you to achieve a more advanced skill level.   You will be able to produce a more professional standard with outstanding results that will give you greater confidence in your artwork.   Be a part of a fun workshop that focuses on improving your skills and meet other creative's who are working on the same level; to share ideas and inspiration.

Explore your own design with Alexandra, a professional silversmith who has studied Silver smithing and Jewellery Design at Chelsea and Kensington College. A Taste Of Ink

Beginners Printmaking Workshop.  Learn a new skill and try a variety of printmaking techniques onto a variety of papers. Have fun making making prints onto a geli plate.

 

Try out some mono print making techniques. Design a poster or create your own Tee-shirt design. (bring your own 100% Cotton tee-shirt).

Silver Ring and Bezel for Cabochon

Learn the traditional skills of making sterling silver bezel setting for a cabochon stone by hand.  Finish off a ring with of your design with Alex a professional silversmith who has studied Silver Smithing and Jewellery Design at Chelsea and Kensington College.  Alexandra is passionate about jewellery making and teaching the craft to others.

Your creation will be hand carved by you then sent away to Regal Castings.  It will be retuned and you can finish it by hand during your second class   Explore your own design with Alexandra, a professional silversmith who has studied Silver smithing and Jewellery Design at Chelsea and Kensington College.  She has also worked for prestigious fine jewellers such as Tiffany & Co, David Morris and Theo Fennel.
