Fundamentals of Painting 

With Damien Kurth 

This is an inspiring and productive course for all levels of experience. A fun time set in a chilled out relaxed and creative environment. Learn something new each week and then build on it the next week.  Damien can give you a lot of individual attention.  Both Beginners and those already on their journey will find this extremely helpful. This course will be based on traditional painting techniques with some contemporary approaches applied to the genre. As well as covering a lot of ground, equally the focus will be on developing a solid understanding of colour theory, tonal relationships, proportion, and composition. Progressing to use these ideas to develop believable 3d forms on a 2d surface.

Bring Paper towels or cotton rags with you. Basic starting materials are supplied, guidance on any other purchases will be given during the course You are more than welcome to bring your own paints and brushes.  Tea and coffee are supplied, a café is a few doors down the road. 

The ideas covered can be applied to all painting mediums (oil and acrylic) and brief discussions can be explored. Damien is an exceptional and experienced tutor that comes to us from Auckland where he has been a part of the Browne School of Art.
 

Sizzling Colour with Encaustic Waxes

2 Day Workshop Begs & Advanced

Learn The intricate art of encaustic wax painting using Bee's wax in its natural yellow state along with imported colour-rich pigments from sunny Greece.  Get creative with heat guns and other mediums to produce 3 beautiful art works to take home and hang on your wall.  Learn the core techniques of:

Layering....  Fusing..... Blending..... Collage..... Mark Making..... Embedding

 

Hang out and meet other creatives in our wonderful art learning space while discovering the joys of colour whilst bathing in the delicious scent of beeswax.  Bring a friend or family member along and you will receive a $40.00 pack of Encaustic Products when both of you register. 

 

Sue also has all the Encaustic Products and brushes available for sale on the day.  Includes Natural Wax, Colour Waxes, Pigments & Haka Brushes etc. from her sources overseas.

What to bring along: Your own materials if you wish would be dried leaves, small dry twigs, small shells, cotton materials eg. lace, string, features, tissue papers, doodads etc.

Sue lives in NZ permanently after over 20 years of living in Greece coming back to NZ and do go back there once or twice a year. She is recognized for her bold and colourful work in different mediums that create structure, depth, movement, and texture.

Painting Happiness

One Full Day Experience

Join Angela for a day of artistic play, where you’ll let go of the outside world and discover the life you long to live.  Through creative play and guided meditation, you’ll shift from your logical ‘to do list’ mindset, to your love based creative mindset. Angela will guide you to paint your own mandala, a visual representation of your universe with you at the centre. As you sink into the joy of simply creating, you’ll infuse the canvas with all your positive energy, hopes and dreams.


The only rule in this free-flowing workshop is that there are no right or wrong. Explore your innate creativity, while playfully kicking perfectionism and comparison to the kerb.

Absolute Beginners Drawing Course

A practical guide to learn the fundamental skills needed for drawing, with Nick Eggleston, one of our awesome resident tutors! He graduated from Chesterfield College of Art and Design and is a member of The Society of Designer Craftsmen.

 

Nick is world famous for his amazing water colours of English Bull Terriers. He's a master craftsman of clay, water colour, occasionally wood carving and recently the art of bespoke shoe making.

Chain Making Workshop

Link and chain making, by hand, from scratch

Learn this most ancient of jewellery techniques. Spend the day making your own chain from scratch, by hand with basic tools.

In this six-hour workshop, along with other keen crafters, you’ll learn about different types of chains and metals as well as the jewellery making techniques you’ll need to design, form and assemble your chain. We will also cover finishing techniques so that you can wear you new bespoke adornment home.

All tools will be supplied.  Plus, a limited supply of either brass or copper wire of your choice of gauge depending on your chosen style of chain.  

 

Tools will also be available to purchase if you want to continue your chain making at home. But, of course, you are welcome to bring any of your own tools you would like to use. Sterling silver wire will be available to purchase in the workshop, but it is not recommended for learning or practicing with.

Bonsai Beginners Workshop

Alexia will guide you through this exciting printmaking technique. Support you to draw a design onto a Styrofoam plate and hand print your design over a watercolour background, your design is repeat printed to create your own multi coloured original artwork. Suitable for school age students 7+years, beginners, and if you have some printmaking experience.

 

Support people are welcome, Wear clothes ok to get paint and ink on and bring a drink or nibbles to fit your dietary requirements.

I start workshops with a whakataukī  (this helps to anchor everyone into a session) I use both Te reo and English as this fits with my cultural kaupapa.

Creative Art Therapies Practitioner Training

Diploma in Holistic Integrated Creative Art Therapy

This is a one year on-line or 6-month weekly face to face professional, practical training course where you will explore a wide range of creative arts while learning the essentials of working as a Holistic integrated Creative Arts Therapist, in a safe, extremely supportive and fun-filled environment.

 

You will spend 10 hours per week completing one module every 2 weeks for 40 weeks.  (MBED)Diploma of Holistic Integrated Creative Art Therapy is the use of art, music, drama, dance/movement, poetry/creative writing, play, storytelling and sand play within the context of therapy, counselling, rehabilitation, and holistic healing.

 

This enhances physical, mental and emotional functioning and well-being.  Holistic therapist work with the whole person and assist people in becoming self-empowered through supporting them on a journey of self-exploration and personal growth, incorporating the body, mind, emotions and spirit.
