The Incubator was founded to grow & connect what was a fractured creative community. Providing studios, events and support, beginning an Arts Momentum.
The Incubator became a Charitable Trust.

The Incubator expanded to include

  • The Artery - Art Learning Space.
    Filling a gap to offer much-needed adult art learning and fostering social connecting through creativity.

The Incubator Hub is further developed with the addition of:

  • The People's Gallery -Toi ka rere. 
    A true gallery for the people to use art to tell stories, be heard and to support local and national touring art groups.

  • The Jam Factory music hub was opened to support the local grassroots music scene and deliver a boutique destination for touring musicians. 

  • The opening of Satellite Studios - Professional retail and designer spaces. Attract and retain creatives to the growing arts village.

The launch of:

  • Okorore Ngā Toi Māori studios & Whare Taonga gallery - A space to nurture Toi Māori practitioners, artists and makers with studio spaces and the Whare taonga gallery for authentic kaupapa Māori works.

  • The launch of the inaugural Tauranga Fringe Festival.

The launch of four new spaces  - Activating tired old buildings and filling them with creativity and mauri.

  • Brook Street Studios - Professional retail studio.​

  • Villa Studios - Professional retail studios.​

  • The Pot House - Bay of Plenty's first Ceramic Art Gallery and working ceramic studios.​

  • The Artist Window Gallery- A collective Retail Gallery supporting top-end Bay of Plenty painters, artists and jewellers.

The launch/inclusion of:​

  • The Village Community Cinema - A cinema for the People by the People - Festivals, Film events and Community! Revamped and relaunched by The Incubator Creative Hub team. ​

  • The Creative Community Campus - An expansion for creative learning and events. The new Campus facility homes the Artery Space, Social Fabric Community Sewing and Textile Hub, The Pottery and Ceramic Hub and The Sunroom - Patio Workspace.​

  • Nape - The new retail space of Fashion Designer Kerry Funnell.​

  • The Light Lab - A unique photography studio space available for hire to both the amateur & pro photographer. In collaboration with nicholas charles photography.​

  • Native Designz (Te Whare Toi o te Moana) - Whakairo/Carving Hub run by Master Carver Whare Thompson. ​

  • The Purple Lab (Phreaze Factory) - Hip hop Artist, Youth & Community Worker and Entrepreneur joins The Incubator to host workshops and a digital creative space.
