Creative Rights for Creative People

Come along and pick Karen's brain! Ask all those nagging questions you haven't been able to get answered and gain some peace of mind when it comes to sharing your work with the world. 

One of the challenges creatives face is that common knowledge of copyright is sometimes at variance with the actual law, leading to misunderstandings, infringements, and confusion - Let's talk about knowing and protecting your rights, why they exist and the cultural and financial value of your work and rights. 

In this session Karen Workman, from Copyright Licensing New Zealand will offer an overview of your rights as a creator and guides in strengthening business practices. She'll help to demystify the Copyright Act, and discuss how to "do the right thing", allowing you to build a stronger creative platform.

Karen has a B.C.A. in Marketing and Management and a B Mus (Hons) in Piano from Victoria University of Wellington, Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Ohio, USA, and her certificate from the life of hard knocks by working with parents of child actors in Hollywood for 8 years. Karen also speaks regularly at various talent showcases in the USA, and has developed several curriculums for film programmes and training for young actors. She is passionate about sharing information and with the majority of her family working in the arts, creative rights is a frequent dinner table subject.
