About the event
Frances Hodgkins: Anything but a Still Life, unveils the life and art of one of New Zealand's most revered painters. Frances Hodgkins holds a unique place in the New Zealand Art history. Her ambition drove her to spend her career in Europe where she spent most of her live and yet the modernist painter is now a source of inspiration for many contemporary New Zealand artists and creatives. Follow in her footsteps this colourful, humorous and inspiring artist as we travel to the places she lived and painted, the challenges she lived through, and her perseverance in creating her life of art. Mary Kisler (Curator, Auckland Art Gallery), Linda Tyler (Curator), Kate Sylvester (designer), Star Gossage (artist), Joanne Drayton (writer and Art historian) and others, reflect on Frances' work to give us insight into her practice.
The director, Blandine Massiet du Biest, will be at the cinema for a Q&A session at the end of the film.
