About the event
Violinist Amelia Taylor and cellist Jesbery Hartono-Hall come together for an exciting programme exploring the extraordinary possibilities of the violin and cello duo. From the elegance and lyricism of Glière's Eight Pieces for Violin and Cello and the warmth of Godard's Aubade, the programme journeys into the rhythmic energy of Iannis Xenakis' Dhipli Zyia before culminating in Ravel's monumental Sonata for Violin and Cello.
Written in the aftermath of the First World War and dedicated to the memory of Claude Debussy, Ravel's Sonata pushes the two instruments to their limits, creating a work of remarkable intensity, colour and imagination. Across the programme, violin and cello become partners, rivals, storytellers and equals—sometimes blending as one voice and at other times engaging in a vibrant musical dialogue.
Join two of New Zealand's accomplished chamber musicians for an evening of music that is intimate, expressive and full of contrasts.
