About the event
A haerenga hauora. A visual chronology of a journey to wellbeing. Medium to large acrylic paintings on canvas or reclaimed materials. Painted over two years as part of a holistic program of healing alongside traditional healing methods and modern medicine.
Pip Lewis started painting as part of a holistic approach to healing. Psych, meds and painting. Healing the wairua and the hinegnaro to support the tinana. Being unwell gave her time to explore creativity. Something in her whakapapa but never given the space to develop. Painting is a means to an end. Pip explains: The healing is in the process. It provides distraction, a feeling of accomplishment, creating something that is undeniably mine which in turn builds confidence and a sense of self. I don't have a subject in mind when I start. It grows out of the process so is a product of my state off wellbeing in that moment.
This exhibition will be open and part of Matariki at the village Whānau Day - 22nd June. 9am – 2pm
Opening preview Friday 7th, 5:30-7:00pm. Everyone welcome. Cash Bar Available
