The Space of a Pause – Group Exhibition

Across painting, textile, photography and object-based practice, the exhibition offers works that create room rather than demand it, encouraging the viewer to pause, linger, and look more closely.

For these artists, making becomes a deliberate act of stillness and quiet. Created alongside lives shaped by care, movement, and change - and for many, the presence of children - the studio becomes a space to step out of urgency and into focus. Within this space, light settles, forms are held, and quiet gestures carry meaning.

Rooted in ways of seeing contemporary life in Aotearoa, the exhibition suggests that a pause is not an absence, but something actively made. Here, stillness becomes an invitation, to take space, to notice what is often overlooked, and to inhabit a moment where form, feeling, and attention are allowed to rest.
