About the event
Join us in the Village Community Cinema for an evening with film Director, Producer and Writer Paula Whetu Jones (Te Aitanga a Mahaki, Whakatōhea, Ngāti Porou). Paula has directed and produced a range of works over the past 20 years, including a number of social issue documentaries and critically acclaimed feature films, including being one of the writers and directors of the anthology film WARU and co-director and co-writer of WHINA.
WHINA tells the story of a woman formed by tradition, compelled by innovation, and guided by an instinct for equality and justice whose legacy as the Te Whaea o te Motu (Mother of the Nation) was an inspiration to an entire country - New Zealand Film Commission.
Our audience will have the opportunity to be involved in our Q & A with Paula after watching WHINA, led by our guest mediator Emma Power,with complimentary refreshments provided by Good Buzz Kombucha.
